So I was doing a bit of research today and I found a KW which had 201K "" matches, yet allintitle/url say there are only 5/6 competitors.

I checked the top result without and search parameters and it is optimized for a shorter tail version of my would-be KW.

So what do you thing, should I go for it?

You wouldn't know if you don't test it. You can always start by building a free web 2.0 property first..like Squidoo. If it rank, get lots of traffic and convert well, then you can build a website for that keyword.

You should definitely run an experiment and see if you can get some traction for that keyword. You might also be able to see a larger pattern, where this keyword gives you some ideas for related keywords.

Sometimes half the battle is just showing up.

If anyone is interested the page went in the serp at #4 with no off page seo, barring a few social bookmarks.

Its also worth bearing in mind that the content was on a post (as opposed to a page), additionally it is only a supporting page in that it is there to help rank another page.

Conclusion: Use allintitle/url when doing KW research, and if you find a similar KW go for it.
