Day vs. Night SERP difference! Am I being crazy?

Hey folks,

I have removed all the cookies from my computer so my search results are not personalized. For several very competitive keywords when I search them at nights the search result is different (by far) from search results at days. At night my website is on the first page for those keywords while at days is third page...
Same IP, Same everything, no cookies.
I have never heard or read about difference in SERP in days and nights. Am I being crazy? Is there such a thing?
BTW, this website got penalized several months ago, so my best guess is the penalty is being expired and it is a Google dance as a result, but having the same pattern repeating at days vs. at nights for several days is just weird!

In my opinion you are not
I had the same experience with some of my sites.
As I have found out Google updates their search and all, twice a day, so one in a day, one in the night. So sometimes he index some links for you, and u rank higher, then some more links for others and u rank lower. If the sites are new, and in google dance period, then this is the reason why.

When you search google its not always the same server, you might hit a different server that might have different results than the other server you were hitting.

There are a lot of weird things with Google's algorithms. It's not perfect for every search/keyword made, and there are more moving parts than we all pretend to know.

One of my keywords changed from page 3 to page 1 pretty much daily. What's weirder is that every few days, the page that was ranking would completely change. When it was on page 1, the homepage I backlinked to was ranking. Then, that page would disappear and a different subpage would appear on page 3. That happened for about 3 months and now I'm solidly ranking for that keyword on page 6! Finally stabilized lol.

I'd use a daily rank tracker to confirm your discoveries. There are plenty of really good web-based ones on the market. Microsite Masters is my weapon of choice.

  Agreed...Traffic Travis is a quality tool.
  As for the different results it could be as mentioned above that searches are hitting a different server.
  I had an issue similar to this before and found that it was dependent if i was logged into to Google or not...so basic that i didnt even think about it for the first few minutes.

Google is crazy not you! This might happening for google dance. Few days ago I found one of my website was dancing and that was lasted for more than one month. Now everything is ok.

Not only personalized results. There are a few other factors, that may influence your SERP rankings. Data Centre is one such factor. If the data centre which is entertaining your query is different from the previous query, results will vary.
