keyword ranks in Germany but not in US?

I'm trying to rank for a relatively high competitive keyword with my homepage. After building some quality links I'm checking with my iphone on the keyword and see that my site ranks 4th (I'm in Germany but the site is in english and mainly for US user). Since it was my iphone I was using google.de for search (for the english keyword, top results are the same as on google.com). But using google.com, I'm nowhere to be found (not even in top 100).
Is there anything I can do to ge the focus to google.com (tell webmaster tools that my site is targeting US etc.)?
