Local SEO Content: Abbreviate your State?

I was wondering, when writing online content for your local business, whether it be blog, home page, etc., should you be writing out your entire City and State for best SEO results on a local level or is simply including your City and abbreviating your State sufficient?

For example (Tempe, AZ) vs. (Tempe, Arizona)

What would best practice be in this case?

Thanks!

I would just do both a few times. Good for diversity and attracting each one as a search result.

Also, since the website is for a local audience, I assume you have the City in a few header (h1-h3) tags to make it loud and clear to Google where this business or website is located out of.

IMO it doesn't matter, considering Google knows all 50 state abbreviations.

    Example: Tempe, AZ
