Yoast: Title and Meta Description 'Template' The Exact Same Thing?

Hey everyone! I'm using a premium theme that has it's own dashboard for developing the homepage. As I have SEO Yoast as a plug-in, and don't directly edit the 'Home' page on regular Wordpress, I can't really edit the homepage's SEO options through Yoast.

BUT.. if I go to the Yoast dashboard > titles & metas > home, it allows me to edit something called the 'homepage title template' and 'meta description template.' My question is.. is this the exact same thing as if I were able to edit it directly on the page? Just a little confused since it isn't referred to as a template in other facet of the plug-in.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide!

not positive but, but i think the homepage title description would show up as the title of the page at the top of a persons browser and also the top clickable part of the page in the serps...and the meta description would show up as the bottom non clickable text in the serps

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

WraithSarko is correct but it's hard to say what your template will do. Will it override the yoast function or will yoast be given preference? You'll need to test it.
I would enter the data in Yoast and make a very slight variation with what you enter in the template title and description editor so you know which Google is taking based on what it shows after you've been crawled. This way you still get optimized since the variation will be so small and still have your keywords in it.

My guess is that the Yoast plugin will take priority, based on the fact that if you leave the fields blank, the google takes what's in the template.

I think you're right, kiliki. Thanks guys! Google finally crawled my site and it's showing up with the SEO title and meta description template that I put in under SEO > Titles & Metas > Home.

I just hope it doesn't penalize my site for being slightly non-conventional, but if it appears to be working(which it is).. I shouldn't have anything to worry about.
