I've been looking into getting more views on youtube by using good keywords, but I'm not sure I fully understand it. Right now I'm using Google's keyword tool and looking up terms that relate to my video. Is the goal to find a word that relates to your video, gets a ton of searches and the competition is low? Replys are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Simply placing the keyword will pose little effect to Google's algorithms. You should also promote the video by using the same keywords and its long-tail versions to make it rank.

Thank you for your answer, Matt. My I ask what exactly is "its long-tailed version"? I'm trying to see if I can breath life into my older video to see how powerful SEO is. So far I changed the title of my video with something that get a lot of searches and has low competition, I added those same words in the beginning of my description and in my tags. Would adding captions help very much?

I just got done reading about long tailed keywords and know what your talking about now. So you're saying if I use the popular keywords and the longer more descriptive keywords that should make me rank higher in the search results? Interresting!

If you are trying to rank for your video on YouTube, all you need is YouTube Keyword Tool to know which keywords will be profitable.

If it's on Google Search Engine you want to rank use the Google Keyword Tool to find queries related to your niche.

And what really matters when it comes to ranking on YouTube is views, comment, likes, favorite e.t.c. Normally, videos rank themselves when you have it optimized but when it's a touch competition you will need to get traffic to your video from various high traffic sites, try to rank it on Google for traffic or buy solid Views, comment, likes and the like.
