How Much is a Permanant Link Worth?

I'm sure it might sound like a silly question, but I was wondering how much a permanent link is worth? I know it will vary based on PR, Alexa, all that.

My curiosity comes from the fact that I've been receiving articles to post on my blogs with PR through another party and getting paid for it. This comes from 2-3 other bloggers turned into working more towards SEO, which I think is a fantastic idea. I don't mind posting, and I certainly love the extra cash, but I am wondering why someone would pay so much for a blog post and a link or two? I get paid anywhere from $10-$25 per blog post with two links and two keywords. It will be there permanently. Is it really that valuable? I'm assuming since I am the third party that the other bloggers are making more than that.

  • Hey Lisa,

Your right the value of link in terms of SEO is based on all those metrics (PR, Alexa, position on page, anchor text, etc.) but in my opinion the best way to value a link for yourself is to look at how much traffic it is sending you.

If a site truly has great PageRank, Alexa and your link is featured prominently then you should be receiving significant traffic, if not then its probably not worth much at all.

But going beyond that, you should look at how much each user sent to you from link is actually worth in monetary terms, are they clicking on ads, buying products, etc?

The monetary value plus the long-term SEO value of a link combined is the best way to value a link.

I guess it depends on whether you get direct traffic from that link.

If you buy permanent links from SEO link sellers then the OBL and PR plays a very large role as you won't get much direct traffic from it.
  • It depends what PR your post will get eventually. If it's a high-traffic blog, and your article is top-notch social share material, then it's definitely worth it.
  • Only $10-25 for a permanent link? I would charge that per month if the site is any good.

    • Hey Lisa,

Guest blog posting is one of the very effective off page seo technique. If the blog is even related to the theme of the website than it worth more than other things in SEO. This is the reason you are getting requests for guest posting. There is nothing new in this. So many big bloggers even used to do this.

You enjoy your money and let those people enjoy their backlinks. Only one thing you should keep in mind is don't give backlinks to the low quality websites.

I don't think OP understands the permanency of a link very well. As in not sticky the post to the front page but just let it drip off instead so that the post stays permanent on the website only.

Some prices that a cheap forum link seller like me would charge

      PR3 permanent $25
      PR4 permanent $50
      PR5 permanent $100
    • Mike,

I think the model the OP is referring to is more like guest posting rather than permanent home page links. In that case, the price is good I'd think.
