are whatsmyserp.com and serpweb.com reliable?

Hi just going through my serps using whatsmyserp.com and serpweb.com which seem to be pretty good tools and was pleasantly suprised with the results my site is ranking much higher than I thought... The problem I have is that when I check to find my site through google the site doesnt appear in the place they say for any of the searches for any of the terms? I'm checking under .co.uk and .com versions of google but I am checking from France, could this make such a huge difference, is there another reason for this, or are these serp checkers really that unreliable?

Any input is appreciated...

    These results are reliable. You might be getting personalized results in Google. Different Google give different results.

    Answering as the owner of whatsmyserp.com...

    1) We get our results direct from google. If your site is not in the top 25, our requests are made 100 results at a time, up to the top 300. Using this method can return slightly different results than what typical users sees. If your site is in the top 25, we do them 10 at a time, which should return the exact results a typical user sees.

    2) As far as regions, we do query the google region you choose. We have over 50 available. But our private proxy servers are all located in the U.S. This may alter the results you see if you are checking from France, because your browser may return localized results, but our private proxies are not the same localized area as you. For example if your keyword is related to a service like dentist, you will probably get different results.

    We do strive for accuracy and we do show you the actual results, not just a number, so you can compare to your individual queries. As I said, our results come straight from google, but there is always a possibility that the results may vary a little based on the reasons above.

      Hi aygabtu, thanks so much for your advise regarding proxys showing different results. I just downloaded a firefox add-on called Google Global that simulates searches from different geographical locations and set the language and geographical settings to UK and the results are completely different - they match whatsmyserp.com pretty much exactly. I just cant believe how different they are in fact. I was under the impression that if you were in google.co.uk for example wherever you accessed the site from you would get roughly the same results, with maybe a few slight changes but I was massively wrong it makes a huge difference... The good news is the serps are much better in the U.K (about 50-100 places and sometimes more in fact on each of the search terms)

      Thanks for all the advice on this my day has been well and truely made! Now i just need to get down to optimising and I can stop worrying about why I'm back on page 10 of the google search...

      Your website is terrible. I am checking many current google ranks for Google US and it doesnt match info on your site at all.

    I use Whats My Serp and love it. I personally can't say I have seen it be really off or something stick out that didn't end up being some kind of google dance or movement based on servers/location. However more importantly, nothing has been off far enough to make me notice or care. I run it every morning and it gives an idea how things are moving and what I should be doing.

    It does seem to be a really good tool (unlike many serp checkers which are a complete con) but just cant understand why the results are showing so differently to what I can see? maybe something to do with the proxy here, maybe a problem with the google data? - I'm going to get in touch with some people back in the uk and test it out. The domain is Ski Chalets France, Ski Apartments France, Ski Chalets Chamonix if anyone has any explanations that would be great...

      What are one or two of the keywords you are having discrepancies with? FYI...you can email from the site to the admin address if you want.

    Oh and one other conclusion - webmaster tools is garbage. I do not trust it one inch anymore.
