    Hi,

Well I assume you know what link building is, when you create the links.

Link earning is when you have produced content that is so good that people link to it naturally.

For example my link building tutorials The Ultimate Guide To Tiered Link Building Part 1 - Matthew Woodward have 'earnt' a lot of incoming links without any effort on my part.

If you do a search in Google for 'tiered link building' you will see how effective this has being for me.

In fact my SEO blog about SEO does not use SEO to rank - I'm trying to rank the website with a zero link building approach and strictly through link earning.

Then again it does take me around 12-16 hours to create each tutorial but thats roughly the amount of time you could potentially invest in a link building campaign so lets see how it goes

Really great work, Writing informative and interesting article does take time but it helps you to build your authority and brand.

Link building is a process where you create your own links.

Link earning is basically when a person is linking towards your site.

Building links on your own is much easier rather than earning a link from someone. Usually you can earn a link when people find an interesting feature on your website or blog.

It is almost difficult that someone will share link from you for your good high quality link. In that case you will need to be a very very good content builder. It is not happening all the time. If link-building goes to link-earning seo will be collapse soon.

I agree with what mathew said, you link build with building your own links and link earning can come in a variety of ways such as getting traffic to someone else through your own links.

Here is a "Live" example of Link Earning:

I recently had an article written for me that I paid someone else $8.00 to write. Once I received it I had to re-write sections but it gave me a starting point and it took a lot less time (maybe 15 minutes). I posted it to Social media news, strategy, tools, and techniques | Social Media Today (it doesn't cost anything to post here and anyone who has solid content can get an article published.) - here it is - http://socialmediatoday.com/mark-kit...-new-moneyball

Check out the share rate on it - literally hundreds of shares on several social networks. In my profile I have a link to my social profiles and my website. I received hundreds of visitors to my sites - the article was on my site as well and I received several natural back links to it - as well as some of my other posts on my blog. What did all of this cost me? $8.00 for the article and 15 minutes of time.

I'm not trying to take a shot at you or anything, your link building tutorials are probably pretty good. But, you've been building links to those tutorials, plus 'forcing' social shares which are... links.

Lol, you couldn't even seem to resist dropping your link here. That's one more you built Taking a light SEO approach is not the same as taking a "no SEO" approach.
Well yes you are right they are links that in essence I do build - however there isn't any link building strategy they are used as a traffic building / inbound marketing strategy and links just happen to be a 'side effect' so to speak.

Plus most of my links I create as a side effect of my traffic strategy are mostly coming from a handful of domains over and over so there is certainly an element of diminishing returns at play.

I think what this guy is trying to say is:

Link building is about working on your back link yourself rather than it building naturally hands-free while link earning is just the direct opposite of link building.

Link building is intentionally creating backlink for your website from other websites while link earning is getting backlinks on the behalf of quality of your content or website from other websites. Link earning is generally happens when someone finds your content or anything on website interesting and the people posts your ink on their websites without any request.

Link building is the process of creating links in order to promote a website and to improve rankings in the ‘search engine results pages’

Link earning requires high quality content to be successful. Rather in the same way that the BBC charter requires itto “enrich people’s lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain” the link builder’s charter should be to provide web content which informs, educates and entertains.

when you create your link to other websites it's called link building and when you get links automatically through your contents and articles it's called link earning.
Basically when you create or write a unique content people likes it and refer your article to others. That's the main thing to earning link.So we can say it's all about your unique and natural content.

in link building what you need to do is to post your site link to other site but in link earning your one article, content, one link would earn thousands of links naturally.

Link earning happens when distributing quality content attracts meritous links. I use a freelancer to do this for me, or you could have a great piece of relevant content created, then notify leaders in that niche via social media channels who can then help your content go viral.
