How does passing on link juice work? (buying sites with existing backlinks built)

So say im buying a site in my industry.
If I buy it, what's the best way to pass on its link juice to my site?

And by doing so, can't I catapult my site (with an aged domain, but few backlinks) to the top?

Is there anything I should be careful of?

    Yes you can do this, and the technique works. However it will be cheaper if you just buy a link on the site instead. If you do want to do it, read my post about Private High Page Rank Blog Networks.
