YouTube Ranking - Keyword Research (help please)

Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering how do you guys go about checking SEO competition for YouTube videos? I have created a few videos but I didn't take the competition as seriously as I should have and I was just wondering what you guys do.
I plan to target about 10 keywords per video and will backlink using the 10 keywords for anchor text. I also put a 400-500 word article in the description that mentions at least each keyword once. I've read a few guides on optimising youtube videos and interms of onpage optimisation my videos are perfect. My backlinking methods are very decent also, it's just my researching that lets me down.
Do any of you have any "systems" you use when questioning whether you could out rank your competition?
