Now a days everyone is a SEO Expert..

1 month = Link Builder
2 month = Sr.Link Builder
3 month = Jr.SEO
6 Month SEO Expert

Then SEO Specialist.. They don't even know the "S" of SEO.. but they know how to spam.

Hence they are so-called SEO Expert's

I don't want to hit anyone personally but this is the real bitter truth!

You can only be an SEO expert if you have made at least 293 posts on Warrior thanking people for their bad advice

thing is, most so called seo experts on here haven't a clue about REAL seo. Most don't even know what breadcrumbs are and how important it is to setting up an internally linked juice flowing site.

also, there are way to many people on here with way to many posts who portray themselves are experts, some even posting up to 15 times a day, every day......i mean who has all that time to post on here all day....EVERYDAY??? and the thing is ppl see them as experts just cos they have posted alot, since when did post count make you an expert?too many fakers hiding behind the screen making out they're an expert when they not.

        And you know that how?

I don't believe you have any idea how many good SEOs there are in this forum.

And - although you may think breadcrumbs are important, marketing a business online is not all about SEO and many businesses can be successfully using the internet to get new customers without knowing or doing most of what you probably think is essential.

Way too many people around here think they know everything and that their precious SEO rules have to be used by everyone.

Too many kiddies who have played with spam tools and read a few ebooks and think they know how to market a business but they've never had a business and have very limited experience of different business models and the massively different approaches needed to market them based on their existing structure, whether they are brand focused and have a marcoms team and internal content generators or outsourced website management.

SEO is a tiny part of marketing a business and if someone says "more traffic = more sales" it shows they're clueless and don't understand that this is not always true. If they're selling SEO services and they said "we can get you more traffic" without asking any questions about your business - run a mile.

I believe this forum does have many good people and it's just the number of lying idiots that make it seem like there are less.

            Why focus on them?

You know when you see people like that they have no real knowledge and are just desperate to sell something or position themselves as an expert to people who don't know any better.

Just ignore them and focus on people who share your mindset and can bring you in a positive place.

People making claims about getting you to page one in 3 weeks are total spammers and out for your money most likely using black hat techniques. The fact is no one can predict how long or what kind of longevity one might have in any given SERP situation.

People who claim to be experts but offer amazing results in short periods of time without knowing anything about your site or niche are all over the place. Its just important to do your research and read the terms and Conditions.

2 years into internet marketing. No expert here, but I can say that I've learned A S*#@ ton.

I love seeing new new members making their accounts in mid 2012-2013, post the dumbest comments to get their posts up and then put a signature saying "SEO EXPERT HIRE ME ME ME ME".

You go into their site and it's some crappy looking blog, spun articles on how to make money, how to create backlinks, blah blah blah.

Hell, till this day I don't even have a site where I brand my name or provide "SEO" services. Why? Cause I want to make sure I fill my cup before I can help others.

I would hardly call anyone who has 6 months of experience in any field an expert. Doesn't it take 7+ years in most trades to be a "professional", nonetheless an expert. I have 16+ years in on-line marketing, and I don't like to say I'm an "expert". ha ha

There is no SEO expert. There are only Artists and Geniuses.

A genious creates/ invents something for the first time. The artist successfully reproduces it.

Both times the content is considered as SEO accurate/proper but the first time is considered "Unique".

What ever you do, no matter how good you are in seo, you won't go anywhere without a unique content.

So at the end, first you need to be an Artist (cause being a genius is kind of hard), and then you can be a SEO expert.

Now please thank me a million times

I have a certain knowledge about SEO, and I manage to get my 2 months old website in my signature from PR n/a to PR 2 in just 60 days. Am I a SEO expert because of this success ? Of course not, but this achievement of mine would be enough for someone to call himself a SEO expert.

Did you hear about the rule of 10 000 hours? If you practice for 10 000 hours in a particular niche you will eventually become an expert (in the book called Outliers: The Story of Success it is stated that it does not depend on your talents or natural abilities, which I doubt though).
It is 1250 working days, 250 weeks, which is approximately 42 months, which is 3,5 years.
Which I doubt again, because some people with 4 or 5 year experience tell me strange things about seo.

I think you missed the point that those stats are trying to make.

You're not supposed to take it literally and apply it to everything.

If you're 3 feet tall - no amount of practice will get you slam-dunking a basketball against world-class players.

Time is only a small part of the equation that creates success.

Saying you need to spend 10,000 hours to be an expert is not a rule - it's just a generalisation about the fact that in order to excel at something it takes a high level of commitment to that subject.

When you are born you only have limited resources and how you develop can vary massively depending on how you focus your efforts.

Becoming an SEO "expert" is not just a function of time. Sure you can teach anyone most things - but we all learn at different speeds. Some people are more creative than others, some are better communicators, some are better with numbers etc. etc.

SEO is a very narrow subject and it's easy to get a good understanding - what makes the difference between people who think getting their personal blog a PR2 and someone who can get 1000 new clients into a business is how much testing they do, how they focus and manage their resources and how they adapt to the changing landscape of SEO so that they can always get good results because they can maximise the available options to get the desired results.

Just "doing a bunch of seo" and hoping it gets results is where most people are at.

Just getting some results is meaningless if you don't understand why you got them and can repeat it time after time.

As with many things - success and expertise is a matter of perspective.

If your business is helping your own websites and you can get the results you need for the revenue you want - who cares if you're an expert in anyone else's view?

If your business is helping others - then you're an expert if they say you are.

Being objectively knowledgeable and clever and having a great understanding is irrelevant if you don't use that knowledge.

Experience is way more important than knowledge in SEO - if you can get results, who cares what you don't know - unless you do.

I see it like the medical field (bear with me)... we all start as orderlies and interns. Some are happy with that level of income so they stay there, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Some are ambitious, study hard and move up quick. Some specialize in just one aspect of the profession, that can be profitable or not depending on the speciality and demand. Some move to related fields along the way, some get fabulously rich and some lose their reputations and their houses overnight.

There is misinformation, there is a need for continuing education to stay abreast of new technology and developments in our industry. There will always be snake oil salesman trying to make a quick buck at the cost of ethics and our industry's reputation. There will always be peeing contests, who's making more money, who knows more. But really that's just a waste of time. Anybody that is really successful doesn't have time for that, and anybody that is truly knowledgeable got there on the backs of those that came before us so they should not shun the newbie, we have all been there.

Boils down to: we can't all be brain surgeons but we can all make some money so let's do it. Cheers.

I think being an account manager is probably a more important skill than being a good SEO.

I'm good at my role but there are probably others that are even better than me but because I can manage my client well enough, no one gets a look in. My clients get cold calls from SEO's all day long example:

"Your seo provider has gained this link for you, which is bad, can we meet"
bearing in mind their rankings have been pulling in more leads since I've come on board. Combination of over delivering, over communicating, pdf & video reporting, being nice helps and you will have a loyal client.

So who cares if you're good or bad at SEO, question is, are you growing/retaining your client base and delivering value?

SEO is only a small piece to the marketing puzzle and although it's the main thing I sell, I will always talk about the importance of multi channel marketing. SEO is SO damn easy, so much money out there. I'm nearly maxed out here..

We've been providing SEO for the last 8 years, and I can tell you for a fact that SEO is becoming tougher, longer and less sustainable. This is mostly due to Google's frequent major updates ever since Larry Page took over - which has obviously worked in favour of their AdWords revenue.
