Do Google Adsense Ad Units Gradually Increase In RPM
- SEO |
I have a position on my website where I place a 468x60 Adsense banner - text only. Since September this banner has been doing very well.
It's against Google rules to discuss earning rates per 1,000, but when I first added the ad unit to the website it was making X per 1,000.
By the end of November, with no tweaks or changes, it was making 2X per 1,000 - so it was making twice the amount of money per thousand as when I first added it.
And by the middle of January it was making 3 times the revenue per 1,000 page views.
In mid-Jan I decided I should test out new ad colours, sizes, borders etc. so I set up a few new ad units and rotated them in the position where the original ad was. After a few days it was clear none of the ad units were going to earn as much as my original ad.
So I set up a new ad unit that exactly replicated my original ad and put it back in the exact same place but it's not making as much RPM as it was before.
It's making just over half of what the previous ad unit was. Can I expect this to rise as time goes on?
If so, what causes this increase in RPM? Is it because Google gets a better picture of what ads to display? Or is it some other reason?
Thanks in advance for any input.
