How many of you guys thinks, that Newbie always ask the same question...! 90% newbies post threads which are already in this Forum Posting Site. For example There are something around 100 or more post about SEO, But the newbies still posting those unnessessary threads..!
Example.( What is SEO..?) (what is on-page optimization)
what are the latest updates of Google Panda & Penguin) and many more...!

  • Yeah it's kind of like those posting unnecessary rants about things they can't change. We get a lot of them too.

  • Hi Karan,

sometimes we forgot how it was when we were newbies. It is true many newbies will ask the same question because they are simply overwhelmed, they searched and they did not find a good answer. Then they stumble onto this amazing forum full of help and ideas, so they ask.

Sometimes the searches here on the forum, I found not to be the most user friendly and that is why they do it. Other times they just want to take a shortcut or they are so overwhelmed they don't know what else to do.

Luckily there are many wonderful warriors ready to help by giving an advice or sending them to a link that will cater to their question.

My personal feeling on this is that we must be tolerant and remember how desperate we were when we had no clue.

    • Now why would Newbies be such a headache to you? If it weren't for those 90% Newbies as you claimed, you "Gurus" wouldn't be filthy rich living in multimillion dollar mansions.

Be careful what you pray for

  • That`s not newbie, it`s purely spam They do need posts to show their signature, hence posting stupid questions and starting countless threads copy pasted from elsewere.

  • As annoying as it is to talk about issues like these, it really makes you wonder if there is a better way to reduce spam on WF.

Well, I know there is, what I'm curious about is why more extreme measures aren't implemented.

For instance, we all act like nothing can be done, but thats not really true.
You can never fully control it, but you can sure as heck reduce the current level of spam.

If WF further restricted the rights of new members with less than 50 posts, I think spam could be reduced drastically.

    For instance -

If you have less than 50 posts, you can't mention the names of any sites, link any urls, or anything like that. No matter what the reason.

Sounds like a simple enough restriction no? One would think it would greatly reduce the current level of spam.

Sure, it might also scare off a few new members. However, in the long run, you increase the overall quality of the forum, and more people will want to join.

    Or maybe I'm missing something?

I definitely see other forums using this, and it seems to work for them.
You can even set another restriction, to make sure they don't post 1 word sentences just to boost their post count.

WF is a great place, but sometimes it seems like its a little "too free".

    • Its a good idea...problem with this type of thing is it actually encourages spam. New users will just spam even harder with fluff to get over the 50 post hump.

I like the idea of user ratings and if you get a thanks from a user with a high rating, that gives your thread/post more credibility and pushes it higher. So say Yukon gives you a thanks then your post will gain credibility, and you as a user will gain credibility. But if a new poster gives you a thanks it won't do much...sort of like a PR 6 vs a PR 0 back link. It would encourage quality...and quickly weed out the people just trying to promote their sub-par products.

    • I think the paid membership has cut down the spam quite a bit. It's low enough that some people will still think it is worth the $10 to join and spam though, but I wouldn't want to see it raised either.

I disagree with the 50 posts thing. I have seen other forums use that. What often happens is you have people joining and leaving a lot more of the

      Great info!

      Thanks for this.

      or

This is just what I was looking for.

kind of posts. People start dropping these left and right just to get to 50 posts so that their signature is visible.

In fact, I think at one time WF had that stipulation if I remember correctly. That was exactly what you would see too. People dropping all sorts of stupid posts in 1-2 days to hit their 50.

I understand what you are getting at, but it just creates more work for the mods in the end.

Best thing to do is hit the report button on messages like that and help the mods to clean up the forum.

  • Many of those "newbies" are simply spammers who actually believe that their forum link(s) is gonna make the world of difference to their rankings.
  • Well the problem I have is that they cant seem to use the search function but I don't really mind the same questions if im not busy or in the mood I will answer again or I just ignore the thread.
  • Thanks MikeFriedman, You alwayz inspire me to post thread like this..!... lolzzz and let me tell you I hate Beer...!
