Hi,

I have been looking at a friends site who isn't going for particularly hard keywords and has a good backlink profile but it just doesn't seem to be ranking.

The site is written in PHP and most of the pages have a page with pretty much just the title and a bit more coding and then it uses this function <?php include ?> which adds the content from another php file. Could the fact that most the content is in this second php file that the main address calls be effecting the ranking? Ie Google ignoring that command an only seeing the content of the main page?

Thanks,
Dan

Google can't read server side code (php) so unless the original page URL is being redirected Google has no idea where the finished HTML/javascript/whatever code is coming from until it's displayed in the live sites HTML (what you see in the browser on the user end). If it's duplicate content from another live web page where Google can see that same content on another pages live HTML, then yes, that's an issue but it' only going to eventually send one of the duplicate same domain pages to Supplemental SERPs, doubtful both pages would get buried.
