Hi

Quite a lot of local seo terms on the keyword or should i now say keyword planner tool generate the value of - for local monthy search. This is for local terms like

{Town name} Builders

Builders {Town name}

On the serp there is plenty of sites ranking for those terms still and the client wants to rank for that term. Is it possible the terms still get a good amount of searches?

For a local brick and mortar business what number of local monthly searches would be considered a term worth ranking for if your a run of the mil trades person such as plumber, accountant, builder, roofer, carpet fitter etc

It's all about the costs vs benefit of course, I know your prices so although it won't push a lot of traffic they should be able to get 1-2 clients a month when they are ranking which often translates in more then $1000,- revenue for the local business owners and most is profit cause of work labour hours and they also have good margins on possible products that they sell.

If I were a local electrician and I had to pay $400/month for SEO then I would definitely think again as it then seems to become more of a break-even business. Although I don't know what the average client brings in.

That's why SEO companies often focus on real estate, lawyers and that type of things as there they definitely make the investment back as one client is often good for thousands of dollars.

Good point. The thing is nik0 those clients often have tougher niches to rank for that take longer periods of time.

I prefer the easier local business terms as it seems within a week your customres site is already ranking page 2 just from on page seo factors. And a little push and a small bl package helps nudge it to page1.

One customer has told me he only needs 1 job every 2 months from his website to break even. So what I am trying to do is create a profit for the customers investment not only so he doesn't leave me but so he also considers increasing his spend for additional terms.

I just want to be sure some of these local terms that google's tool data doesn't register or count the local monthly search volume is going to benefit my customer because if it's not my business model is flawed greatly and I have unhappy customers to contend with

What about Google going local now?

If you perform a search for aerial installation, and then under the search box on page 1 of serps you will see search tools, if you click that it will show you location and click that it will show the results are for your area...

So if your based in Paris, and your an aerial installer, if you go for the term aerial installation paris if someone in paris searches for aerial installation will it still show your site up? for both terms?

No idea, perhaps local businesses don't even need to put effort into SEO/ranking anymore in the future. That Google will just show the locals that are most close to you when talking about large cities.

With small cities that's already the case as there are not so many dentist in such small cities so automatically everyone shows up at page 1 same like your client shows up on page 2 purely based on some onpage things and few competition.

I'm not into local SEO (maybe later) but I do know one thing about construction type business from personal experience years ago. It's not uncommon for construction type business to travel out of town/county/state (US).

IMO, I would ask the small business client what is the furthest they're willing to travel for work, then target all those lower competition small towns/suburbs that are easier for SEO to start with & then focus on the clients most wanted work area long term.

BTW, my heating/air guy travels over 50 miles to get to my house, he installed my ac/heating when I built my house (13 years ago). My point is, the guy does great work so I call him back whenever needed, I don't call other people in my own town because I don't want to take a chance when this guy is already good at what he does. I got his business phone number from a sticker/advertisement he placed on the front of my house furnace.

Just saying, most of these types of service small business will travel for work.

Yes well I built my client at no extra cost an additional version of his homepage re written targetying a secondary area. I'd like to ensure he gets at least to jobs a month from his site as the stability of my business is dependent on the stability of there's

Would you say if your client is on page one for a total of 100 local monthly searches they should end up with 2 enquiries a month
    Thanks for your inputs

That all depends on how competitive the keyword is (PPC + local/organic) & what position you've ranked the client page.

If the 1st page of the SERPs is loaded full of competition & your client is sitting at position #10 of the 1st page of the SERPs, you'll be lucky to get traffic going to the client page/site.
