Hey,

Can anybody name, or better yet provide a link to a credible article with top 5 best books/ebooks on SEO that would be still relevant today, or anything related? Enough to become an SEO. If you have more, go ahead.

And yes, I'm aware of the SEO blogs and websites, and I read them, but sometimes I just don't feel like looking at the laptop, or blog type of articles anymore. I just want my Kindle.

  • I suppose I can look up in Google with some books, then come here looking bad and give a list of them, but that isn't what you want. LOL! Gee, it's been a long while since I read a SEO book, but I have ready many, both hard copy and eBooks. I guess the appeal isn't there as much because by the time the author finishes publishing and distribution, Google will have gone through several dozen algorithm changes that parts of the book will be outdated.

When seeking any SEO advice, I look at many factors of the source, especially the date.

If you're looking for some, you can find a few eBooks on SEO at eBay for less than .99ยข.

Good luck and keep on truckin'.

  • I haven't read any books/courses on SEO for quite a while so I'm reluctant to list anything specific, but don't just follow a book from a year or 2 ago because it has heaps of great reviews.

SEO moves quickly so you should look at things that are recent, things that have been released in the last few months.

Also, don't just blindly follow whatever you learn in every course. A good idea would be to buy multiple courses and to read popular SEO blogs to absorb a heap of information, and then to test things out and make your assumptions on what you see happening rather than what you read.

  • I launched a WSO for that just a week ago.

PM me with your email and I will forward it to to during my free time.
  • I read a lot of SEO books. I just like to see what others are doing. Rarely do I find what I would call a good one, but now and then I pick a few shortcuts here and there.

I don't know about a 5 top SEO books, but here is one I picked up recently that I can tell you absolutely sucks.

Amazon.com: SEO Black Book - A Guide to the Search Engine Optimization Industry's Secrets (The SEO Series) eBook: R.L. Adams: Kindle Store

It is probably the single worst SEO book I have ever read. A total POS. I left a review on there too. I don't know how this thing has any positive reviews at all.

There is one good one that I like. Some of the stuff in it is a bit dated, but it still has lots of good info on onpage issues to look at when evaluating a site. I forget the exact name of it right now, but the author is Danny Dover. You can find it on Amazon.

    • Mike, thanks for the input.

Here's the book: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Secrets: Danny Dover, Erik Dafforn: 9780470554180: Amazon.com: Books
However, it seems to be published in 2011, which is a bit too old.

Do Moz, SEOBook and other respectable public SEO sources not have their books released? They have different online guides, but I don't remember any books.

    • Saw your review on Amazon (it was hilarious) ... sadly, you're the only reviewer to call him out. Fiverr? Really? Fiverr? All the bad reviews say it's too basic ... what do you expect for $4?

I think I'm going to write my own eBook about SEO ... and just list random Fiverr gigs.

    • I decided to go back and investigate this a little bit. There have been 3-4 more 5 star reviews since I left mine.

Here is one of the reviewers...

Amazon.com: Profile For Diana L: Reviews
She has 200 reviews of different books. All 5 star. And she is not the only one in the list.

It's pretty obvious the author is buying reviews for his products.

Just be careful when looking at reviews.
    • That's Dany Dover's "Search Engine Optimization Secrets". He has discussed some good things there.
  • lol! to be honest, all SEO books I've read were pretty crappy

    Including the 'SEO for dummies'.

One tip: If most people know a particular tip and you see it repeated time and time again on WF, chances are - it works - BUT since everybody knows it, doing it will only yield minimal results.

The only real way that works for SEO - many backlinks from high quality, relevant sites. It's hard to do that easily and quickly - but that's the most effective way for long-term SEO results.

Lol, never trust reviews on the interwebs, they're all BSing. :p

Amazon is just like ebay as far as feedback.
  • I used to read a ton of SEO books a few years ago but the landscape is just changing too frequently where a book just published 6 months ago may not be relevant today.

With that said, the "basics" of SEO (ie on-site optimization etc) hasn't changed, so once you get those down the rest of your learning will come from trial and error.
  • I am 99% sure that you can build a very good website without reading ANY book... A book will not be helpful as things change quickly in the SEO industry... Something that's perfect as SEO strategy today, could be NOT working tomorrow... So, I suggest reading forums like this, asking questions, taking part in discussions and stay up to date!

  • I read many SEO books when I was a beginner. All of them teaches the same. No one will tell you their exact seo strategy. They will tell you basics of SEO.But you will get better in search engine optimization with your experience. Spend sometime,do different experiments and you will become good in SEO.

  • Instead of reading a book i would just search the seo forum and find good topics to research. You will never learn enough about seo because nobody knows the secret formula to high rankings. Just testing, testing, testing then more testing until you have a decent idea what works and what doesn't. Just remember to take any advice you hear on this section of the forum with a grain of salt for obvious reasons.

    Thanks

The preview & table of contents look like opinions & statistics. Not my idea of a useful SEO book.
