Can a niche directory get on the first page of Google?

The first page of Google has no search results, it is just a search box.

The next page of google is based on the search which the user searched for.

If you are targeting keywords that someone searches for... and no one else is targeting those keywords... you should be the very top result, if your page has more "relevance and authority" than others targeting the same keywords ... you should be the top result more of the time.

You will never be on the first page of google.

Don't believe all the BS

In fact if you see the truth in my over simplified statements above, you should have the ability to spot SEO BS much more easily.

It's like all things SEO, anything is possible.

At the moment here in the UK a lot of local search results are showing directory sites (big and small) on the first page of the results. That wasn't the case anywhere near as often a few months ago and may well change in the future as Google tweak their search results.
