This is why I think Facebook Groups are way better than an email list

This is why I think FB Groups are better for marketing than emailing your list.

I know some of you will not agree, but I do have extremely good results with FB Groups and less success with email marketing.

1) Everyone is on Facebook
2) Groups are free to set up and run
3) Groups are social
4) People want to be a part of a group
5) Groups are viral
6) People get notifications of a group post if your posts are good they´ll check it out.
7) Groups are less aggressive - You don´t need to be aggressive with your marketing and groups lets you soft sell.
8) People don´t unsubscribe from a group if you offer good value
9) You can interact with your group - If they know you they´l buy what you recommend
10) Your posts will not end up in the spam folder
11) You can build your audience ultra fast for free

These are good reasons why using FaceBook Groups is a good idea, not that FaceBook Marketing is better than email marketing.

    IN addition,

    1. Not true (in two ways: the literal and this one: lots of people have facebook accounts they have not seen in years and don't plan on ever using).

8 and 9 apply to email marketing.

In other words, I'm saying that, just because you cannot make email marketing work well, doesn't mean other people cannot.

    Peace.

PS I'm glad you found a way that works well for you, many never do.

Well, why don't you combine Facebook Groups and Email Marketing together? Let them have synergistic effect.

    1) Everyone is on Facebook - everyone has an email

    2) Groups are free to set up and run - everyone can have an email for free

    3) Groups are social - with email, you can be social too when done right

    4) People want to be a part of a group - people want to receive emails from people who they know, like, and trust

    5) Groups are viral - sometimes, viral does not make you money

    6) People get notifications of a group post if your posts are good they´ll check it out. -if your email content is good, people will want to check it out

    7) Groups are less aggressive - You don´t need to be aggressive with your marketing and groups lets you soft sell - you can soft sell in emails too

    8) People don´t unsubscribe from a group if you offer good value - people won't unsubscribe from an email list if they receive good value

    9) You can interact with your group - If they know you they´l buy what you recommend - if they know you, they will buy through your emails

    10) Your posts will not end up in the spam folder - your posts gets drowned in all the notifications. With email, people can filter it out from the spam folders if you remind them to do it and they do it.

    11) You can build your audience ultra fast for free - ask experienced email marketers and they will tell you the same thing too

Summary - every form of marketing works when done right. There is no one method which is superior to the other, but it depends on who is doing it and how he/she is doing it.

    Cheers for a great post

It all depends on what type of groups that your referring to:

1- The type where everyone has tunnel vision due to everyone spamming their links left and right.

2- The type that people create as a disguised as value to sell their stuff. I don't like these because I have been added by so many newbies without my consent.

But usually the case of people discovering methods and tactics that are working for them...the smart ones usually keep it to themselves.

    Why?

So your method will keep working for you saturation free.

In my opinion...Email Marketing is still better.

But glad you found something that works for you.

Having an FB group can be beneficial.

I have a group and do email marketing.

I prefer email and I do far better with it.

Plus you have stats and know who opens / clicks with email.

My BFF uses her FB group in conjunction with a FB page, email, and a website, but probably 90% of her clients come to her from her FB group. But she (and I, since she drafted me to help her admin) work our butts off on moderating the group with more than 16,000 members, and she creates at least 10 new pieces of content a week (graphics, posts, videos, etc.). It's a lot of work, but it's worked very well for her.

When/If Facebook bans your account, you're done, game over.

Email list are portable and subscriber email addresses are diversified across multiple host.

Keep in mind, an email can be used to login to Facebook, so, Facebook knows people still use email.

You shouldn't be looking at one or the other (Facebook vs email), you should be doing whatever it takes to communicate with your traffic, If that's smoke signals, well, use smoke signals.

Both of them work good if you use them properly. The downside of having a Facebook group is that it can get deleted by Facebook. I don't think someone should rely solely on a Facebook group for marketing. You have more control over an email list long term.

This is a very good conversation and great points. I'm getting REAL LEADS per $1.77 using my Fan Page - I have 6,000 followers that I got per $0.01 to $0.07 - and offering to sign up for my "exclusive group" to 6 weeks of coaching. They are not paying but I'm delivering content and building my reputation as "money/entrepreneur expert".

Build Email list with the group only works when we are an admin of the group.
    I think...
Because when you build a group you can connect with people on group and build a relationship with them.
After that you can give away something (Ex: lead magnet) and get lead.
    But
When you join another group I think admin does not like anyone to sell or take leads in their group.
You can give away and people can follow you. But you can't share link or said people comment Email below.
If you can do that in any group I think its not works as well.
P/s: Facebook groups are way better, I agree with you.

What are your contingency plans for FaceBook's whims?

A good thread going on here. My opinion is this. No matter what website you goto they will get your email, there's a reason for this. Build email list, ask your email list join your FB group, if you have a blog promote it to the email list and FB group. On your blog offer both options to join FB group & your mailing list. Cross promote everything to each other. FB like others before them can Stop at any given time without warning. You could very well have a group of 300, 30,000, 50.000 active people but if FB shuts down and you don't have their email addresses your SOL. That said you will always have your email list. One good thing to do is have your list market your list for you, let them forward it to their friends and have a link inside so that they can join right from it. FYI ALWAYS back up your email list in more then one place.

To me, both need your commitment. From my experience, actually not much different between email marketing and facebook group as long as you know how to put value on it. Not just use it to approach people with bunch of product. The better way is use both. Set to your mind to helping others until they feel comfortable with you and don't mind to spend some money to buy the product you recommend.

    ...BUT

    Facebook Groups ARE NOT YOURS!

Take in mind: facebook can ban you or close your group at its own peace.

Email Marketing has made 4X of sales in 2016 than Fb & Twitter COMBINED.

Why take something which is a Media and compare to an ASSET?

Email Marketing is an ASSET: the list is yours.

Facebook is a Media: u own NOTHING.

    However...

There is something called ZERO MOMENT OF TRUTH: conied by google, it indicates this proccess: once a potential lead or customer get in touch with you, he search about you on google, on facebook, etc.

So you have to be there: with pages, with youtube channel, and of course with fb groups!

You have to be REDUNDANT: in groups, fb pages, etc, always underline your unique selling proposition, your brand.

BUT don't confuse a media which can be useful to spread your message and interact with the MOST POWERFUL ASSET you may have!

Every contents, channel, group, pages have to point to your opt in page, to your landing page where you capture the contact email.

You have to take them OUTSIDE facebook, cause only when you have their email, they become 'yours'. I mean your potential customer, repeated customer, with RETENTION.

You can ask a user that wants to join your group 3 questions.

I ask for their email address as part of the 3 questions.

I would guestimate that about 90% provide it.

those that don't I still approve and then have a couple ways in the group to get it.

FB Groups do have a lot of uses and engagement compared to Email Marketing but it also depends on your target. I think both would be good to have though - especially since, as mentioned by a lot of people here, your FB Group isn't really yours and if it gets banned or deleted for some reason, it's adios amigo.

Plus a lot of people have emails not just for FB but for other websites that require login to access.

Hi, different platform works for different niche. Facebook does convert, however email marketing has the highest conversion. How well you can convert will depend on how your email is written and whether the trust & relationship have been built with your subscribers. Keep your list and try to establish the connection again beside using Facebook, After all you could have paid to get the list.
