YouTube’s top earner is…an eight-year-old?

Okay so Forbes last week published its annual listing of top-earners on YouTube, with eight year-old Ryan Kaji and his Ryan's World once again top 1.

As you might know, Kaji was also Forbes' top YouTube earner last year. Meanwhile, here are the rest of the list:
  1. Ryan Kaji - $26 million
  2. Dude Perfect - $20 million
  3. Anastasia Radzinskaya - $18 million
  4. Rhett and Link - $17.5 million
  5. Jeffree Star - $17 million
  6. Preston Arsement - $14 million
  7. PewDiePie - $13 million
  8. Markiplier - $13 million
  9. DanTDM - $12 million
  10. Vanoss Gaming - $11.5 million

That is a whole lot of money. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki also noted:

Honestly, that eight year-old earning millions just unboxing new toys? It's something, but is incredibly difficult. I mean, no one becomes a YouTube star overnight. Rome wasn't built in a day. PewDiePie didn't instantly gain 100M subscribers upon signing up.

  • The thing with 8-year old is amazing, but not that surprising when we think about the fact it appeals to an audience other YouTubers don't even touch.
    I mean who is a bigger fan and can watch your videos for thousands of times like a kid?
    I also think his parents are genius marketers to pull that off. I've read somewhere that nowadays more than 20 people are working for Ryan's channel.

  • Interesting stats. My only takeaway from this is the greater the audience you serve and the more value you provide, the more money you make! I think this holds true in any business, not just YouTube.

  • OMG I feel the groans of parents agonising across the globe. My daughter loves watching this utter rubbish, personally I'll be glad when she gets bored of watching, hat's off though a good bit of dough for easy work.
  • 8 years-old kid is earning $26 million/year, but 43 years-old guy's (it's me) channel is still under review for the past six months. ha ha ha....
