How long do you spend on a social media platform to figure it?

Aside from algorithms, every platform has its particular culture. How much time do you normally invest to get a hang of it?

If you mean figuring out how new platforms work...

Here is an example from my experience.

I haven't know anything about tiktok. I was entirely focusing on facebook, youtube, twitter, etc.

I heard many people talking about it, and read some news here and there.

I always believed that tiktok is only for fun. I've just started exploring this platform about two months ago because of a friend's recommendation.

I have really surprised. It is not just for fun, but actually you can do a lot of business there.

I have spent about a week or so (browsing 1-2 hours), to understand how the platform work, and figuring out the process and algorithm.

So, I think spending a few days is enough (for a mid-experienced marketer) to understand how a specific social media platform works.

I'm mostly into the algorithms, so I take my time. It ranges from a minimum 5 days to max how many I need.

I mostly run ads so it takes a while. I invest more time in analyzing how different competitors are using the platform in terms of content, what kind of audience is engaging, what content works, what doesn't etc.

I usually start by browsing the platform trying to see if I can figure out on my own how the platform works. After a few hours like 2 hours, if i am still not sure how it works, i just go on Youtube and find "how-to" videos on the relevant topic. For example, if it is advertising on Facebook i search for videos on, "How to advertise on facebook". Usually, this reduces the time i spend trying to figure it out myself.
