The most annoying Twitter 'hacks'

With an average of 330 million monthly active users, Twitter might pale in comparison to Facebook and Instagram, but the Bird's users are more discerning.

And if you're keen on maintaining a solid Twitter presence, avoid these annoying 'hacks'
  • Follow for follow. Ah, the classic 'follow us for a follow back'. While this might have worked in the early 2010's when Twitter was still in its infancy and brands were still building their presence on Twitter, it has become a desperate approach for building a following.
  • Hashtags on every word. The thing with hashtags is that they help connect users to a broader conversation, and it doesn't make sense hashtagging random words. Think about it: nobody's gonna search on Twitter for the #evening hashtag, right?
  • Automated DMs. This is a big no-no, and is tantamount to sending out spam messages to audiences. We've yet to see anyone who used this approach effectively on Twitter. Avoid this at all costs.
