How to Pay $0.00 for Facebook Ads

Now this is just my experience and from people I have taught.

But when paying for clicks, I usually averaged around $0.25 - $1.50 per click, with all terms - global, local, high value, low value etc.

When paying for impressions, you have the opportunity to bring your ad cost down quite a bit by optimizing your ad.

So when you might pay $0.20 today for clicks, tomorrow you can get that as low as $0.0025 (with good optimization).

To do this you change the ads your using with the following major changes ->

Title (your pages name)
Description (ad copy)
Image (I suggest different colors, styles, images, etc)
Audience demographic (female, male, age, country)
Spending for cpm (sometimes paying higher decreases costs oddly)

From what I've seen, if you can hit lower than $0.08 you can almost always hit lower than $0.01 so go for it!

Especially achieving $0.03 per click, that's great! Keep it up and let us know how it works out for you.

To acquire this, make sure to go after a large audience that's targeted towards what kind of page you're creating. And what I usually do is pay for "impressions" versus clicks. By doing this you can save yourself $100's of dollars each month when using Facebook ads.

My lowest cost for an ad was around $0.0018 which I achieved about 2 months ago. I'm expecting the new Facebook changes (news feed update) to increase conversions due to the interest of the new layout.

Anyways, let me know what you think and what you're experiences are.

If all you did was change from CPC to CPM and you're getting nearly 1/3 the expenses, that's great!

Now optimize your ad a bit more to see if you can increase your CTR!

With all due respect, I checked out your FB page and noticed a few factors that stand out that MAY be effecting your ability to get likes.
1. Many of your posts are TLDR. Twitter-type comments that pack value in a smaller number of words seem to be more effective than your approach.
2. No distinct logo. You rely on stitched-together pics of bodies with an 80's-style disproportionately large, script font word. Less seems to be more and you might want to consider something that creates instant or near instant recognition.
3. Posts that don't create engagement or at least not enough engagement to retain visitors that can lead to likes.

I had a campaign that's $0.06 per click and just changed to paying $0.30 per 1000 impressions. My CTR on the a being just over 9%. So that'd be 90 clicks for $0.30, instead of $0.06 per click.

However, now that I've changed it, it says $0.30 Max Bid for CPM but then average price of $6.23 for CPM.

Do you have any idea why that might be? The ad is still pending, so maybe it'll change.

How would they see your offer if you link directly to your fan page? If I am promoting a CPA offer wouldn't it be best to link externally or atleast have an iframe tab?

I have managed to pull this off before too, it's a great method to use you just have to spend some time to find the particular holes where nobody is bidding much for keywords and there's traffic there anyways.

Guys, I've tried this and have had nothing but the worst luck. The first campaign I ran ended up being PPC at a rate of $2.50 per click. I blew through $10 in the first 30 minutes. I tried again and still ended up with the super expensive clicks. How are you setting this to CPM (is that "cost per measure", or "cost per thousand" impressions?) and not getting charged per click? I am so frustrated that I can't figure this out!

I only target the U.S., U.K. and Canada.

Yes it can have an impact of course, but I NEVER target countries outside of those unless it's Mexico for very specific niches.

For example, there is a huge market in Mexico for Halo, which you can find here: Google Trends

I was mainly pointing out that I'm not targeting cheaper countries. Many marketers go for the lowest cost countries to decrease expenses. But truth is.. even targeting the more expensive countries I've achieved $0.0025.

Australia is a country I haven't specifically targeted.. but I should.

If you research Google Trends you can see a high number of interest in is Australia, so thank you very much for the idea!

And I only focus on getting page likes themselves, unless I have a really great post that I want to promote. Now at my level if I promote a post, it costs me $100 at the lowest level. So I focus only on promoting the page via CPM (paying for impressions) and optimizing my campaigns to achieve better CTR.

When I first used it for whatever reason it was cheap cheap cheap and I got so many page likes and post likes. Then I could never replicate it again. So here are the options to create an ad on Facebook. Do I optimize to increase engagement with your post or do I optimize for impressions? Also they ask for a daily max. I put $5. They also ask how much do I want to pay per impressions for the bottom choice. Can anyone shed some light on exactly how to structure the bid/ad? Thanks!!!!

I would simply suggestion using the "Optimize for Impressions" method.

This way you are paying for the effectiveness of the ad in general. If it doesn't work, you change it a bit to see what works best and gets a higher CTR or more engagement.

So I adjusted it to the optimize for impressions at $.40/impression, which is right down the middle of suggested bid. We will see what happens tomorrow....Than you for replying!

I will never understand why people call me Jason online - I get it when it happens in person because they might mishear what I say.

I'm only talking about this because I feel that a persons name is the greatest way to earn their respect. Especially when talking about social media, because it's the interaction between people

Outside of that, I'm glad that you were able to use this and it worked for you to increase your CPC/conversions/bids and hope to see you get that down to $0.01!

Yeah that seems to be the common approach that facebook takes

They will snatch your money if you leave it to them to optimize. I literally saw $10 disappear in less than 10 minutes with them

I changed it to optimize it myself set the amount at like 0.3 cents and it went to a crawl LOL

Just managed to get 0,027$\like by doing the ad, in the native language of the countries I was targeting.

So instead of an english ad targeting a huge number of countries, I did one ad for each country translated in that country's language using google translator. Then I cancel every ad that was under performing and increased budget on the best conversion countries.

Made a test run for each country, using the same image\text, . From the 20 countries I tested, I got about 10 countries with cost per like under 0,10$ and 3 countries with cost per like under 0,05$. Yes cost per like and not cost per action. If I consider the actions, then it is 0,025$\action

Also i have noticed that "sponsored stories" have a huge CTR comparing to normal ads, something like:

Sponsored Stories CTR : over 2%

Right so what you're saying is, instead of paying for likes (which I tend to do for fear of paying money and getting nothing) what I should really be doing is going for CPM because if it's a well targetted ad with a good headline and image then I will get fans much cheaper than if I pay per click?

Hi Justin,

Have been using your method now since yesterday, and so far I have been able to achieve $0.10/click and $0.14/fan. Not bad, but not even close to you and therefore expensive. How can I bring it much lower?

I've done a lot of facebook ads and I hate it to leave my money on their hands for them to optimize it... they are a huge bubble that can consume your budget within seconds.. it takes longer to set up a campaign than having $10 used...

Do you guys think it's true that facebook gives some sort or 'preference' for those that set higher budgets in regards to a better price on impressions?

I had someone come to me the other day go from getting a 0.2% CTR to a 0.7% CTR in a little over a week.

The concept is simple. Test different ads & different markets. If you aren't achieving a low CTR with a large audience, try for a smaller audience.

Example: Don't go after "health, fitness, weight loss, p90x, diet, etc." as your primary target. Instead focus on just one or 2. So in this case maybe "diet, weight loss" or "fitness, p90x" and then test out targeted ads

Well firstly I don't set a CPC, I only set a CPM.

If you set a CPC you are obligated to that price pretty much.

However if you set a CPM like I do, I would suggest to set it usually $0.02 - $0.04 above the lowest suggested bid.

Unless your bid is divisible by $0.05, so don't bid $0.05, $0.10, $0.15, or $0.20 instead go after $0.02, $0.03, $0.04, $0.06, etc.

In my experience that's the best way to optimize your bid.

My Q to you is are you actually getting SALES from what you're doing? I honestly and truly don't mean to be rude, but there is a huge difference between a guy who has a FB page with 25,000 likes and no sales, versus a guy with 1,500 likes and 200 sales. Ya' feel me? Like's are virtually worthless, unless they lead to transaction or prosperity. Where do you sit with this?

You are getting people who are interested in your product or service, you aren't just getting likes to a page that says Dogs are cool or something stupid like that. You want to get them to a product page where you can sell them.

I think this is wrong. The chances of having a page with 1500 likes and 200 sales (only through the page) is low. The point of getting 25,000 likes is that it provides credibility. Once you have a lot of likes, then you can more easily target the cash audience, because they will believe your page offers value if lots of other people already do.

I want to add on that I have had pages with VERY FEW fans/likes that have made more than $1 per fan from a single post.

I'm not saying it's going to happen for every page but it is possible.

A page with 300 fans can achieve the same as a page with 50,000 fans if you know how to market it and network.

I got once a $50 coupon and used it for impressions on my posts, when I started my page had 1000 likes, and at the end of the campaing when I spent all the budget I had 4800 likes. So I think it's a little expensive, but you get targeted likes, so it's worth it.

That's definitely not expensive..

$50 for 3,500+ likes on a page is a great deal especially if you can leverage those fans into making yourself a profit.

I need a little advice.

I started my FB ads yesterday. I split-tested 4 ads. All the same copy but 4 different images.

I was surprised as to which one did better!

Should I now test 4 different copy and use the same image?

I really want to get 1 cent likes. Here are my stats.

$5 budget. 13 page likes. Campaign reach 845. Frequency 1.9.

The best ad had these stats: 1.671% click through rate. 11 page likes. .35 cents per page like.

My potential reach was 16,800 people. Is that too few? I just targeted a few different topics.

1. Should I continue to run the CPC ads while starting an impressions ad or maybe FB doesn't allow that.
2. My daily limit now is $1 per day. How much should I set daily limit for impressions ad?
3. My cpc ads are in their 5th day. How long do you run your ads for? do you pause them to reduce ad decay?

1. You continue to run your add while making new optimized for impression. I always recommend do split testing
2. Daily limit is up to you but I suggest to set it up at least $10 per day per campaign
3. I run ad till get first result (impression, ctr...) and from that point 7 consecutive days to get more accurate data than I decide edit or not

So I'm paying right now on a CPC basis, and have spent $43.38, getting 294 clicks, with 7,242 impressions.

That comes out to 0.005 per impression.

So you're saying I could bid, for example, 0.003 per M if I switched it to CPM?

Though FB recently changed it's way to calculate CPC, it's still possible to get cheap clicks. Funnily enough, I've got my cheapest clicks to external websites.

This example is from 29th June where I paid 70 cents from 3,026 website clicks.

@amateur69, yes it's possible, I've done it a lot and actually created a video course how I got 200,000 FB likes during one year and over 100,000 website clicks paying $0.00 per click.

Today I started testing with CPM and actually see quite nice results. I'm eager to see how things develop...

i think its possible/hard to get 0.00 per click today after fb made update this month https://www.facebook.com/business/ne...pc-on-facebook . After the update im paying $0.03- $.0.3 targeting non us countries.

I think that it depend on the niche and the CTR
You can use tools like xtractor.me to get emails from groups and events and upload them as custom audience to your campaign.
the traffic is more targeted and most of the time custom audience get cheaper clicks

Sometimes i try to do cpm instead of cpc in the campaign(it work better if your audience is very targeted.
