Unnecessarily Long Quoting Levels

Greetings.

One of the things that is clogging up the forum are individuals that are quoting posts that are many paragraphs in length, with a one sentence reply, which generally, if it required any quoting at all, a sentence or two would have sufficed.

This is a ridiculous practice and if you ever tried to follow a thread on your phone, you would realize how much it degrades the user experience of the forum. These no reason for this other than being unaware, lazy, inconsiderate - or, any combination thereof.

It would be nice if the mods could bring this to the attention of the most flagrant perpetrators of this practice on a continual basis until they relent. I have nicely brought it to the attention of more than one individual, but in the usual display of, "I don't care," my entreaties have gone ignored. It's the old, "Hooray, for me and screw everyone else," syndrome.

That, said - I'm sure this will get the same response as my request for a current status on whether or not 'self-promotion' posts are still against forum rules and should be reported. I'm taking all bets and giving good odds!

  • Waiting for someone to quote your post with a one sentence reply...

    and?

    • I live to please. Plus a demo accentuates the point.
    • i once wrote a one sentence reply to a quote
  • The worst is in the "modern view" when there are long-running quoted conversations. The messages keep getting indented further and further to the right. Eventually, it gets to a point where each line is only a few characters long and the whole thing is unreadable.

Just more proof that the admins don't bother to browse their own forum, or if they do they don't give a crap about the user experience anymore.

  • If a user has to quote a post, they should quote only some sentences or part of the post. any user repeatedly quoting large paragraphs and replying with a short sentence, that's a spam and the moderator should be notified to take the proper action.

    • That's NOT, "a spam.' It's an inconsiderate act that degrades the user experience.

  • I have no idea what you are talking about.

    • And I have no idea what you are talking about. I write at a fifth-grade reading level, based on where I'm posting. Try to keep up. :-)
  • Modern versions of most premium forums scripts give the admin the option to only show so many lines of a long quote, after which users have to expand it to see the whole thing.

Maybe this is available in this script but it's turned off? But i have my doubts because this script seems rather outdated.

I hate the "modern view", BTW.
