A one strike you're out rule?

I was thinking, maybe we should have a one strike you're out rule for first post spammers?

I don't mind reporting spammers, but it defeats the purpose when their spam thread just gets deleted and they continue to make other spam threads. I think a temporary ban should be warranted on the first spam thread, and permanent ban on the next.

When you see a bunch of keywords, or Chinese letters and the words nike, you know it's a bot, so why not ban them right off the bat. It would save time and headaches for the mods who have to keep deleting them.

I'm not sure how it works, but I've notice most of the time the thread gets deleted and I'm waiting 60 seconds to report the next 3 spam threads. to the point when I say hell with it

I just seen some clown make a WSO in the main discussion section with his very first post, complete with buy now button and graphics

Maybe we should all vote for you to be a moderator? Or at least to have spam moderators?

I'll pass on being a Moderator, but giving these first time post spammer a temporary ban is a solid idea. Like I said, I don't mind reporting them, but to see them open up new spam threads and have to wait 60 seconds to report them again, can be frustrating.

If you're asking the community to help report these spammers, the least you can do is put these spammers on a short leash, so we don't have to keep reporting the same spammers 4-5 times before they get banned.

We already have spam moderators and they nuke a lot of spam; I mean a TON of spam. There are also moderators that actively monitor the "New Posts" link so they can try and catch them as they come in.

If I see a spammer with one post and they post something like Viagra or Michaek KORS handbags, etc. I permanently nuke them.

As already mentioned though, they've set up systems, macros, etc. that allows them to continue spamming. The filters appear to be working now and have stopped a lot of it.

      It's a never-ending battle.

I do the same, but most of the time they are given chances. Of course I check right away once their spam thread is deleted, but then they just take out another spam thread. Maybe I am just making a big deal out of nothing

Spam is such a huge waste of everyone's time. No mercy I say!
I agree, it more of a nuisance if anything. Maybe a shorter leash will cut alot of the spam out, even though the Mods already do a great job.

The issue is that banning them doesn't solve much. They would just create a new account. What is needed is that when a user spams the forum, their account is flagged as a spammer. They can still create posts but those posts are not visible to anyone else. That way they can think they are spamming all day long but it won't effect anyone else.

Is that possible? Maybe an ip ban would be easier?

It's shouldn't be limited to blatant spam, but spam that is disguised as an inquiry, they should be given time off also. I'm sure many Warriors find themselves reporting the same inquiry spammers.

So, I used to own 5 or 7 forums... (I'm not sure it's been a few hours since I sold/got out of that business)... And IP bans don't do anything, because most spam servers (if its an automatic spammer) just change their IP and keep sending.

The same way that some of my friends use US Netflix here in Canada, they just keep changing their IP...

So, I mean there's no way to stop them, however if you can "sandbox" them and make them so their posts go invisible, it's way better.

        Cheers

I think I will vote for this. (If a newby's vote counts)

I am newbie to warrior forum and I do want to sell my product here. But I will rather wait and build up a reputation here (however small that reputation might be), rather than jumping straight on to wso section and start selling products. Hell I will not even put up a forum signature until I make some nice contribution to this forum.

I didn't even know this was an option. Will they be able to see their own threads, but it will never go live?

As already mentioned though, they've set up systems, macros, etc. that allows them to continue spamming. The filters appear to be working now and have stopped a lot of it.

Bots are easy to spot, but the inquiry spammer is what gets annoying. They post fake questions to stuff the thread with keywords and get people to click to their sites. Sometimes they change the wording and repost, and alot of times they just repost the same old spam thread. Those are the guys can use some time off.

The other day, I saw a guy who took out a thread asking "what is a soload?" and in his signature he was selling solo ad mailings to a quarter billion emails for a monthly fee. How about the guys who ask for a review of his site and makes a thread that reads

"please review my KEYWORDS and give me advice, again here is the link to my site http://www.IThinkPeopleAreTooStupidToKnowThatImSpamming.c om

Maybe a temporary ban would be in order. I talk alot of crap on the forum, but it never crosses my mind to post links back to my sites in my threads. People that do that, do it for the sole purpose of spamming IMO.
