In the interests of transparency, know that though I was sent a review copy of this course but, having gone through the modules, I would have been very happy to purchase it for myself. I recently discovered that 61% of online searchers consider "local search results" to be more relevant than paid results. It woke me up to the fact that I really need to get up to speed with ALL aspects of what appears on Google's pages, not just the usual organic results, Adwords and videos. Which meant that it was time for me to finally get up to speed with what Google Places - which I've been steadfastly ignoring for 3 years - is all about, and the best way to implement an effective profile. David's detailed course, which I went through yesterday and this morning, allowed me to do just that. Content 'Places Traffic Flood' includes modules on adding in your profile, increasing your visibility, managing updates, as well as a useful bonus module and useful tools. Within these sections are all kinds of recommended ways to optimse your listing, ease you through the verification process, and subsequently pull in great customer reviews. (The bonus material and the package of 'tools' he adds to the mix give you a number of different techniques for going about getting comprehensive reviews from former clients.) All of the course content is clearly laid out and conveniently presented in video, PDF, and MP3 formats so you can watch, read or listen in to it (but David, who IS that person opening and closing the squeaky-hinged door in the distant background???) Finally, there are a couple of additional items on the 'Update' page where David clues you in on key elements of the new Google+ Local page and how it compares to the old Places profile page. Conclusion I think I would have considered adding a couple more examples of successful case studies in amongst the mix just to show what can be done with a decent Google Places campaign, and the impact it can have. But overall, this course most definitely teaches you all you'll need to know to create a highly-optimsed, search-ready Google Places profile, either for yourself and your business, or for your offline clients. If you outsource your admin work, as I do, you can easily have your outsourcer or VA watch the videos or read through the transcripts, give them a day or two to prepare, and then have them working on creating your profile(s). There's nothing too difficult to understand in here, and the material's set out in such a well-structured, methodical way that you won't get lost. The Checklist included in the 'Tools' section is, I think, one of the most useful items in the whole of the training program, along with the advice on how to fix your Places listing and its contents if something goes wrong. Even if you've already created your profile and know your way around the new Places interface, you're likely to find some useful gems that will help you to get round tricky little areas where you might be tripping up your efforts due to the peculiarities of Google. For instance, I discovered a really simple little tip that will make sure that I can get ALL of my highly-niched businesses listed SEPARATELY, even though they are all housed under one single physical address. Much better than having Google attempt to merge them together into one horribly confusing Places Listing 'mash-up'. Final Opinion? If you're about to, or if you are already using Google Places, and need some additional guidance, go right ahead and click the buy button... |
