When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. --- Khalil Gibran | |

I just got a review from Joe -- thanks for squeezing me in. Pros: >The article was well written and very detail-heavy, which is good for this type of story. >Research and thought obviously went into writing the article. >I think anyone ordering from him can safely say that he isn't an ESL masquerading as the real thing. >Was a news article and I found the flow very worthy of posting it on a news site. >Passed copy-scape. Neg: >Article was a breaking news article and was out-dated by a few days and the story is posted all over the net by now. This may not be an issue for future buyers, as he claimed to have some family issues going on that prevented the article from being delivered when it was written. However, the article isn't something I could post today, as its time has passed already -- this type of situation would have been very disappointing (and unacceptable) had I paid for the story. Here's a copy of the article for everyone to see: Yahoo's $1.1B Purchase of Tumblr Concludes Amidst Uncertainty After reports of the impending deal had circulated for a week prior to the announcement, Yahoo confirmed that it would be buying the blogging and social networking platform Tumblr for the total of $1.1 billion USD. The founder, David Karp, will be retained as the CEO of the site, but loyal users of Tumblr suspect that the sale could bring unwanted changes. Both Karp and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer have put out their own statements regarding these concerns; Karp has stated that Tumblr's mission “certainly isn't changing,” a stark contrast to the picture presented by some of the more vocal users of the site. Mayer and Karp have pledged to work together, both to improve the current model of Tumblr and to do everything possible not to alienate its extremely loyal user-base. A Fountain of Youth There are several benefits to keep in mind for Internet giant Yahoo. Tumblr has a younger demographic of typical users, with strong representation within the valuable 18-24 range that online retailers and marketing agencies want to tap into. Tumblr also experiences 300 million unique hits a month in traffic, a figure which makes it among the fastest growing media networks on the planet. Tumblr has also been extremely mobile device friendly, a boon in an era where younger users are becoming more familiar, and capable, with mobile access to their favorite sites. Most importantly, Tumblr is expected to expand Yahoo's own user-base. The integration of the two sites and business models may seem strange to long time users of both, but Google's foray into the world of social media with its Google+ venture is indicative of a growing link between major search engines and major social networks. Google's own purchase of YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion USD was the mark of a new era of media and marketing being brought under the same roof. A Reserved Approach As for the implications of Tumblr's acquisition, the integration of Yahoo's “personalization technology” will create interesting developments within Tumblr itself. As Yahoo is a search company at its core, improvements to the search-ability of Tumblr content, along with new opportunities for monetization and marketing, will mean greater brand exposure for the platform. Tumblr's existing marketing strategies, including its Spotlight brand showcase, are a modest but important example of moves the company was already making prior to the acquisition. Meanwhile, users who are dissatisfied with the news of the merger have found sanctuary with rival platforms like WordPress, which has seen the amount of imports performed in one hour inflate from 400 to 600 to 72,000, nearly 144 times its standard rate of transfer. Tumblr loyalists remain divided over whether or not the acquisition will bode well for the future, but many are positive, given the pledge from both Mayer and Karp that Yahoo will not seek to re-brand or otherwise impose its own brand onto Tumblr in any way. Recent conversations with video sites like DailyMotion and Hulu indicate that the Yahoo empire may still be adding more to its numbers before the year is through. |
