Hey guys so on my quest for niche site success i have come across a TONNE of profitable products that i can promote using the words best/ reviews when searching. My only issue with this is although i can find low competition keywords for specific products... sometimes when doing keyword research i cant find anything to base the whole site on that i can rank for. So in the end im left with loads of product pages that are rankable but im not sure if i really need a homepage. can i just have my products listed? Anyone come across this problem? H

Sorry, but I am confused and not really sure what your asking.

When you talk about products, are you talking about products in many different niches/markets?

You can't find enough in a given niche to build a site around?

Either way, seems a home page would be necessary, so your visitors can check out what else you have, if they don't take the product on the page they come in on. Plus a home page is almost like a site map in a sense. Plus the fact that a home page is a way for the search engines to navigate your pages.

Just my two cents. Or I miss understood what your asking.

You need a homepage definitely. I think a homepage is a representation of what your business is and not just the product page.

Ok so all I'm saying is if the main keyword of my niche is too competitive to rank for should I build the homepage anyway? Then I could fill the site with low competition product based keywords that are easier to rank...

Yes, build the homepage because of this (bold)...

First, think of your customer's perception of the site. A paying customer will buy from a store when all of the standard store features are at the customer's disposal such as a shopping cart, invoices, order tracking, etc., so on the homepage you want to make all of the features available to the customer. At the very least always put the customer's needs first. That in itself goes a long way to repeat customers.

Rank wise, search engine wise, the homepage rank is determined by the inner pages of the site. Niche wise and keyword wise a site is only a site when the site focuses on a broad range of subjects/products such as.. tools. Tools is a broad term and the keywords are also broad, so the keyword competition is very high. However, when the site focuses on a specific subject niche such as Aviation Tools then the keyword competition is lower.

That is just the basics. Your site should always start with a plan. It is always a good idea to put the customer first > give customers everything they need and want to pay for your products > and that is the basic plan or as some call it.. online business 101.

A good example of a site "done right" is Ron's Online Store. All of the products are easy for a visitor to find from the homepage, all of the products are in categories which makes it very easy for a visitor to navigate the site, and in the end the site converts visitors to paying customers. That is what all merchants want > paying customers.

    Jeffery 100% :-)
