Letter Tiles Displaying In Mobile Gmail?

Ok, I get a ton of emails, and today I noticed that one of them actually had both an image and the stupid letter tile gmail started using.

How did this guy get his image to show up in my gmail with a split tile?

Another words the colored letter was still present, only it was cut in half, and his image displays on the other half.

I would like to be able to do this, as it would likely increase email opens.

If anyone knows, thanks. I was gonna take a pic, but I erased the email by accident, and don't have another example to use at the moment.

*Tried to Google a tweak for this, but was unable to find any tutorials or tweaks that allow the image to be added.

It's a Google+ Profile Pic. No 100% sure how this works, but I think it's as simple as the person sending you an email having a Google+ account.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I had just added this person to my G+ circles, and noticed he had just updated his Google+ profile image, but even when I send emails to my wifes gmail accounts (both of us having G+ accounts), or from various gmail accounts to my niche gmail accounts, my avatar never shows... just the square tiles.

So, I am still curious to know how or where such settings can be accessed. Actually, thought about asking him in an email; "How did you get your profile pic to display in mobile gmails?"
