I am building a small website for my employer. I am thinking of using Hostmonster. Are they good?

  • I host all of my sites at HostGator. I've never had any problems or site down time with them and their support is excellent.
  • I think Hostmonster quite expensive. Better try h t t p : // w w w. justhost .com
They get promotion price 3.95USD/Month than Hostmonster 5.95USD/Month

JustHost give you anytime moneyback guarantee and $25 for Google Ads. Gothca look..

    1month = 5.95 USD - 3.95USD = 2USD
    24months = 48 USD save

    • Hostmonster is also as low as $3.95/Month when you sign up for 24 months. They also offer an anytime prorated moneyback guarantee (i think you can get it all back if you cancel within 30 days).

I have accounts with both hostmonster & justhost. I've been with hostmonster a lot longer, but justhost seems like a pretty decent host so far.

Recently, I ran some performance testing on hostmonster, justhost, & dreamhost, and although I haven't yet published the results, in a nutshell hostmonster is the best of the three as far as performance is concerned.

I could care less about which offers the most google adwords credits - that's not what I pay for hosting for. But if that's important, hostmonster offers $50 of adwords credits & some yahoo credits too, plus a sitebuilder, the one click installs, and all the other bells & whistles that hosts are offering these days.

As far as database speed, network speed, php execution times and so forth, hostmonster comes out ahead. (oh and by the way, Dreamhost's database speed, as many know, is kind of bad).

Hostmonster is a great host. Justhost, I haven't been with them long enough to really say anything about them, but they seem ok in the tests I've done. For instance, justhost seems to have faster response times for serving the static pages that I used for testing on all three hosts.

Also, in a lot of the reviews of justhost that I've read, everyone complained about justhost's uptime. So first thing I did upon signing up for justhost was I ran the 'uptime' command which showed that the server had been up for 84 days.

So the next thing I did was logged into my dreamhost & hostmonster accounts to see how long those servers were up. Hostmonster was 1 day & Dreamhost was 23 days. Of course either of these servers could have been running nonstop for a whole year previous to reboot.

But to the original poster, I'd certainly recommend hostmonster. They have good support that have good English speaking skills & the guy that runs the company seems like a class act.

Also hostmonster doesn't skimp on their server hardware. The box that I'm on has two Xeon E5335's for a total of 8 processor cores running at 2 Ghz each. It has 16 GB/ ram.

My dreamhost & justhost accounts are on boxes with 16 Gb & 4 Gb ram respectively. Both have a single Xeon quad core processor. Still justhost blows dreamhost away especially in database related tasks. I hear Dreamhost has some wonky networked database setup that adds mega latency too.

Anyhow, I've been with Hostmonster maybe 3 or 4 years and everything's been peachy. They have downtime like any other shared host. But you might want to check out this Justhost outfit. Somebody posted a justhost coupon code on here that would give you a year of hosting for free. Ok, now I remember, the coupon code is "TEMPLATEMONSTER".

Don't know about any coupon codes for hostmonster, but it's pretty affordable and quality for shared hosting.
  • 1and1.com is simply the best...I recommend it for you.
They also make a discount for 6 monthes...check it out

    • Could you explain what makes 1and1.com the best?
  • Hello
Ya Hostmonster is really nice for Hosting website. But it is quite expensive. There are many sites available in market which gives you enough space for you can upload your website.
  • Hostgator is ok as well as 000webhost. You can check out hosting forums to find out which one suits you.
  • I have heard great things about HostMonster but I have been using HostGator for over 2 years now and I really love them.
  • If you plan on running multiple websites, I suggest using resellerzoom, if you are planing on running one website hostgator shared hosting is good

  • do they offer ffmpeg? or a VPS solution?
  • I have heard good and bad reviews about hostmonster so I can't say go for it or not but if you like you can give them a try for 1-2 months and see if they are good enough for your websites or not?
  • Can you describ the types of site that you run? I've been reading through the Legal stuff and terms and conditions and several of the
top hosts" have emailing restrictions and/or throttleing limitations. They also have language restricting somesite that affiliates may use like Top Sites, etc.

I have 3 different hosts but am looking to consolidate so I am in the market for a good "affiliate friendly" hosting solution. May sites, many domains, many sql db, many email addresses, flash/shockwave/video, unmetered/unlimited would be nice, etc.

Most of the big guys recomnmed dedicated servers but for what? I don't want to manage dedicated/vps/cloud servers just to run dependable websites and not worry about the host taking them down for silly reasons.

  • I am happy with them. Their support is top notch.
  • Not sure if that matters to you, but HostMonster started to charge domain privacy protection (WHOIS privacy) few months ago. It was free of charge for years. In June they start charging $7.95 per year per domain ( $4.95 for first year of privacy protection).

Besides that, I`m really happy with them.
They are very reliable and, most important, their customer support is really excellent (live chat support was always on and helpful when I needed them).

If you`re going to start using them it might be useful to research a bit for some coupon codes (as they do not work for renewal).

Btw, if I remember well, same Utah crew is operating BlueHost (didn`t tried them so far), if that means anything to you. Their price list was same (and they also started to charge WHOIS privacy in same time) and presales chat conversation makes me think they are sister companies.

To summarize, according to my experience, I would warmly recommend to try HostMonster. They are stable and user-friendly.

    Hope that helped.

    • You should use Hostgator because you don't have to pay in advance.
  • Hostmonster is terrific. The support is great.
I have two hosts. One costs me $47.95 per month. I pay it gladly.
I don't know what hostmonster charges me but I thought the price was insignificant when I bought it. Stripped down, jerkwater hosting plans sell for $3.95 and $4.95 per month. If two or three dollars a month won't break your budget, go with hostmonster.
Don't forget Allen Says has a hosting plan going too.
  • I have not had any problems with them, Bluehost, Godaddy or Lunarpages.

    • I have 3 domains at Hostmonster. They have helped me every time I have called them. Even at 4:30 A.M. I also have about 25 sub-domaine there too. I have tried a few others but I have kept my Hostmonster now for 3 years.
