    There is an option in WP Settings that allows you to display a static page/post as your home page instead of the latest posts. Check it out ...

        No plugin is necessary - when you create a post right above the PUBLISH button you will see

        Visibility: Public Edit

        Click on edit, and check the box in front of: Stick this post to the front page

        This will make your post sticky and it will always show above all other posts.
        It can be done with more than one post.

          Thanks for that, didn't realise they had added this. I never use sticky posts these days.

    Go to your dashboard, then settings, and under reading, set the number of posts you want on your front page. If you have that one sticky post, then just insert 1.
    Hope that helped.

    don't know if you found it yet but this works for me, go to your index.php file and use this code:

    <div id="content">
    <?php if (have_posts()) : ?>
    <?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    <?php if(!is_sticky()) break; ?>

    oppps wrong theme, sorry

    it would be in your loop-page.php
