Macbook Pro and PC--together, mon :)

Hey, you seasoned veterans. I have a new desktop, PC, and love it. I have Adobe CS5 running on my PC, but something happened. I have a friend who just happens to have a new Macbook pro, and it's great! It's a laptop, and it's fast and smooth. (I thought we only used those terms for cars, but, anyway...) This has me thinking. I know nothing about Apple. I used one for about a week, twelve years ago, but much has changed. How many of you use an Apple laptop and PC, interchangeably, for any web design? Is it a challenge trying to toggle between Apple and HP when creating pages, or a project more involved? I would be interested to know your opinions, one way or the other. Thanks,

Ciao!

    Hey Justray,
I have a Macbook Pro on which I also run Windows Vista. I prefer to do my design and coding on my Mac OS, since it runs so much faster and more smoothly (as you said) than PC. I then switch over to Windows Vista (PC mode) to test my websites in Internet Explorer. It is very simple to switch between Windows and Mac operating systems/computers. I also like the programs available for Mac to help with web design (I like to do all of my coding in a non-complicated code highlighter, of which there are many free options for Mac.) I hope this answered your question!

LOL. I would really like to know what software you use that runs so much faster on an Apple MBP than a comparably specced PC.

It's not so much the software rather than the operating system itself. Since it doesn't need to run antivirus software or spyware, that alone frees up the processor. Also, the code-highlighter I use (Smultron) just works faster than its Windows equivalent, Notepad++. As for programs such as Dreamweaver, XAMPP and even web browsers (Google Chrome is my favorite), my Mac just runs them faster than any PC I've ever used. As for using a "comparably specced PC", I run Windows and Mac on the same machine (my Macbook Pro) so they make use of the exact same hardware.

I hope that was enlightening? Just my view. I was a PC user for eight years before I went Mac. Never looked back.

    Similar but different...

My desktop is Windows, while my laptop runs on Linux Mint. I flip back and forth all the time, saving all my active project files to my Dropbox account so it automatically syncs between the two.

I'd probably drop Windows entirely if not for Adobe Illustrator. That's the only software that has no Linux equal.

To answer your question, Dropbox really helps. The only snag you might find is your fonts. They would have to be installed on both systems.

I have to do this for work purposes. I have Macbook. I use a program called Virtual Box to run Windows 7 (at the same time as OS X). It's no problem to toggle between operating systems. In fact, there's a "seamless" mode so don't even have to toggle between them. It's kind of trippy.

Are the key commands much different? Will I lose anything by toggling between the two operating systems?
