Designers graphics card

A question to the seasoned designers, what kind of graphics card are you using? Does this provide a substantial upgrade in quality? Enough to justify the upgrade of $300-400? Right now, I have the NVIDIA GForce 8600 GT., but will have to replace at some point. Don't want the added expense unnecessarily.

    Honestly what you have is fine, upgrading your graphics card may speed somethings up, but in terms of substantial quality that is practical, its a waste of money to upgrade unless your a gamer.

      Your total PC will make the difference, You must have the processor and ram to support the GPu. Now i run a core 17 with dual gtx295's. I used to run a quad core extreme with dual GForce 9600 GT's. The difference is amazing. I have 83,000 fonts and just over 75,000 brushes in photoshop. It used to take about 65 seconds to load the fonts alone when I hit the text tool, now its instant. Also, I build and run a lot of automated scripts that I create in photoshop. They are called actions. It used to take 3 to 5 minutes to run a standard action on a folder of images, now it takes 35 seconds. This does not come from my GPU by itself, its a combination of things. If you are talking about video editing, the GPU plays a bigger part but not much bigger. It still relies on your total pc. I recommend at least an I5 processor with 6 gigs of ram running at 2000mhz fsb at least one gtx 295 and a jamming motherboard. And lots of fans or liquid cooling. You will save about an hour to 3 hours a day in your normal works.
