Hi Guys,
I am looking for a web editing program where I can update my website. I like dreamweaver but its very expensive.

Can anyone recommend a good program (free or cheaper one) where I can preview the page before uploading to server?

I truly appreciate your feedback...

Millions of thanks
Chloe

    Hi Chloe,

You can always open the file on your browser before uploading to see what it will look like.

If you want an editor, do a search for "WSIWYG html editor". WSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get.

If you're just looking for a text editor, I would suggest using Coda if you have a Mac. It handles a lot of great features.

If you're using a PC, just do a google search for "Free HTML editor for PC" and you should find what you're looking for! Good luck.

I prefer to use Notepad++. It's always worked for all my coding needs. I have also used and like Dreamweaver as well. It is quite expensive though.

I haven't personally has any experience with these, but they are free.

      NVU
      KompoZer
      FirstPage
      Amaya

      Hope that helps.

While I use Dreamweave b/c I work with multiple client websites, DW is probably overkill for what you need.

If you have a basic HTML website, I'd recommend using Coffee Cup Software's Visual Editor (HTML Editor, Website & Web Design Software | CoffeeCup Software) This company has been around nearly as long as DW. Their visual editor is robust, but easy to learn. It is not free, but it's much less than DW.

Another thing you might consider is converting your website to WORDPRESS. Than you can make the changes on your own.

        Enjoy!

For text editor to write html (and css and javascript) look at TextWrangler (free), and BBEDit (cheap) for Mac, and Notepad++ on PC. If you want something a dedicated programmer would work with, look at Eclipse with specific versions for web, or even VIM, both free.

I also like jEdit on both platforms... its not as heavy duty as Eclipse and I use it for most of my actionscript and php work.

For cheap WYSIWYG look at iWeb on Mac, and Serif WebPlus on PC.

And look at and perhaps download the beta of MUSE at Adobe Labs.

Talking Adobe, might you be eligible for education pricing from Adobe?
