Are those sites static websites (basic html, css, js), wordpress or something else? If it's just a static website, maybe checkout weebly. If you build a website using weebly, it's all backed up for you. You can also download the website and store it on your own hard drive if you want to.

Also, they offer a great tool to build your website and manipulate html, css, js. You can use it for free (with some limited functionalities but the free account can get you fantastic website as well). Even the paid one is not expensive at all. It was like $7/month.

Yeah it really depends if its a static site, or a CMS site, if there is a database, etc.

For the different CMS system there are different backup extensions that can be used (ie: Joomla has a good free one called Akeeba Backup).

What I usually do for my non-Joomla sites: If you have access to Cpanel you can go in and select all your files and 'compress', then just download the zip file, much quicker than downloading all the files through ftp. Also if there are databases go into phpMyAdmin and export all the DB's.

    Hope that helps.

How frequently are you looking to do this? If you're using cPanel, I'd recommend just running a full backup of the account. If you have large sites, lots of files, images etc, I would recommend a web host that "actually" provides this type of service.

R1Soft CDP is a pretty good solution. We have some test accounts & sites that we routinely delete from the server and restore from our backups to test. IMO it's amazing. It give us the ability to restore files or even complete accounts on the fly.
