The first web design client I ever had contacted me again last week to make him a second site & so I'm trying to do a REALLY nice job for him.

I've gotten 4 referals from this 1 guy alone so I feel obliged to make him a second killer website.

Right now I'm somewhat content with whats happening above the fold, its underneath the fold that always drives me crazy. I can waste hours and hours rearranging things in the side bar to get them aligned with the content in the middle of the page, but for this site its just NOT working.

I still need to work on the text content underneath the table, but what I'm most concerned with his how everything doesn't align properly under the fold.

It almost looks like I may have too many graphics if thats possible. I'm not really sure.

For you guys who do a lot of web design I'm kinda in a rut about how to make under the fold look cleaner. Do you have any ideas? I could really use them and feel like I have "creators block" right now.

Here is the site: (this is its temp domain)

    Hi there,
I think the site is coming along great, here are some suggestions:

-Take out the image under the free estimate form (black, it says all county renovations) it is redundant there and just creates clutter.

-I know it is good to have calls to actions, but you have four modules with variations of "call us now!" on the page, in addition to the quote box - maybe a bit too in your face.
I would take out the call now image with the female with the headset, at least.
-I would make sure that the address and telephone number are there in text, not just images. Small thing, but helps with local SEO.

-I think you are using too many fonts - the client testimonial font especially looks a bit gimicky. Pick one font for headings, another for text. You can play with font-weights, sizes and colour, but too many fonts makes for a cluttered feel.

-Get rid of the comments box at the bottom of the pages. Especially in the inner pages, they could be confused for contact forms. Also, you don´t really want people leaving comments on your sales pages.

-I would move up the 4 image modules you have in the main content area to above the block of text. I would also try and create a cleaner look, get rid of those thick blue borders around the images, and the grey border for the table and cells, it will look much cleaner. Perhaps add a 5px padding around the images and a 1px grey border.
-The buttons underneath the images in the same module are a bit garish, try doing a simple button with text instead of an image, use the same colour/gradient as the main menu.
-The list under the modules is too spaced apart, try using
instead of spans and paragraphs. Try styling the
parts so you have a nice little tick image or something instead of the black dots.

Sorry, went on a bit there!

Those were all great suggestions! Thanks a lot. At one point I was sure I wasn't getting any feedback in this thread then I logged in today and was very surprised to find this review.

You are right about a lot of things, many things I was already kind of thinking but don't know how to really do. Like removing the borders around the table etc (although I'll just use fiver for that). I do also have a lot of call to action graphics & I'm going to tame those down a bit. Then I have a new plan for the site that I think will look really nice & clean.

    Thanks again! - Rob

I always wonder about under the fold stuff for my sites for goofy reasons and wonder about computer screen size. When I put my lap top in front of my desk top because they both have different size screens the fold is in a different place on both and worry about which would be better to make more things fit above the fold so it will show up on a small screen or just to leave it. It is a similar problem you have but a little different. I still haven't decided what to do.

I like the layout of your site.
Make use of the white space.

Since you have just started the site.
I think you should be in for the design that trends today.

    Hope it helps.
